Watch rescuers' joy at finding Venezuelan earthquake survivors

More people have been pulled alive from the rubble days after two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, as fears grow that the death toll will continue to rise. The quakes - which hit within seconds of each other on Wednesday and measured magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 - have killed at least 1,430 people, with tens of thousands still believed to be missing. Aid agencies say that after an earthquake, the first 72 hours are critical to saving lives, although this window can be longer if those trapped have access to food and water. Rescue efforts continued on Sunday, with tens of thousands still believed to be missing. As of Saturday morning, families had reported at least 68,900 people unaccounted for. Venezuelan officials said 17 flights carrying more than 1,600 rescue personnel had arrived by that point. In La Guaira, residents searching for loved ones used shovels, heavy machinery, ropes and even their bare hands to comb through mounds of collapsed concrete. They were joined by a growing number of international teams picking their way through the rubble, offering a fragile glimmer of hope to waiting families.
